Skoda Octavia RS - History

OCTAVIA RS debuted 20 years ago, and today motorists are already talking about the first electric Rally Sport from the Swedish brand Skoda. The new OCTAVIA iV intends to continue the outstanding history of the model and also become the first plug-in hybrid RS model. Before, let's remember the existing auto RS line.

The ŠKODA 180 RS, 200 RS and 130 RS are the instigators of the company's rally success. The 180’ and 200’ models appeared in 1975 and were intended for the race track. Then, for the same purpose, there was a very light construction 130 of the Skoda Octavia RS.

The rear-wheel-drive racing car had a 1.3-liter 140 HP engine and provided numerous victories on the international race track until 1983.

This success did not go unnoticed, and the question of the appearance of a serial road version was only a matter of time. In 2000, ŠKODA participated in the world rally championship with its OCTAVIA WRC, while introducing the RS letter combination for the production model. The road version of the first generation had 180 HP with a 1.8 liter turbo engine. Each subsequent generation’s technical characteristics did not give up positions. Especially popular was the third generation in a combination of 2.0 TSI or 2.0 TDI engines at 162 HP - 220 and 230 HP.

ŠKODA expands the RS family with the new FABIA RS in 2003. It was presented at the Geneva motor show and serves as the basis for the new FABIA WRC rally car.

The KODIAQ RS, released in 2018, was the first SUV to join the RS family to set its own sports records. Currently, Skoda only releases a teaser featuring the newest RS logo. The OCTAVIA iV model is not yet known to the public.
