Knocks and noise in the engine – is it the reason to worry?

Before to start, someone could tell you that, if you hear a knock, do not worry much, maybe your car has such an engine design. But, it sounds ridiculous, remember – knocking in the engine isn’t normal. However, if you hear a knock, you need to understand where it comes from and get rid of it. Probably, this article will be most useful for newly-qualified drivers.

"Don't worry, it's not critical”

Rarely, a knock goes from the absorber’s valve. Its task is to compensate for the vapors of gasoline and return to the fuel system. The problem, most often, occurs on the old cars, and it doesn’t occur for actual replacing the absorber valve.

Fuel system injectors (discharge jet) can only be a problem if they cause discomfort by its sound. The thing is that, the knock in the nozzles is associated with the specifics of their functioning and depends on the spring elasticity. In a fact, it can be a temporary condition, and the replacement of injectors can save you from this problem.

Pushrod and hydraulic lifter. Problems with the pushrods appear after a long run and are characterized by the presence of cracks. It is important to note that the knock will be heard only in cold driving, if the engine is heated you wouldn’t hear the knock. The hydraulic lifter, also, wears out and clogs, it is easier to replace, but to clean it is quite problematic when the mileage level is high.

The chain mechanism of VVEL (or Variable Valve Event and Lift) is quite a significant problem. If the belt is installed, then nothing will knock, but if the chain is responsible for the functioning of the VVEL, then over time you can face the problem of knocking. Not as dangerous a knock, as what it can lead to. If you do not change the VVEL parts for a long time, you risk damage the pistons and bend the valve. As a result, the repair of the consequences will be much more expensive than replacing parts immediately when a knock appeared. Depending on the model of the car, the replacement of parts of the timing system should be carried out after 200 -250 thousand km.

"Houston, we have a problem”

Phase inverter wears out with more than 200 thousand km of the run, primarily depends on the quality of the oil. The knocking out from them is strong and sometimes is accompanied by whistling. The sound appears at the load and a high number of revolutions (900-1500-2000 rpm). A lot better to apply to the service of the official dealer for detailed diagnosis.

Pistons can make a knock after the formation of gaps in consequence of wear and tear, and the cylinder wall, as a result of the previous, can be damaged, as evidenced by the presence of gaps and bullying.

The most serious problem with the engine is the knock, which produced by a crankshaft. Knock can liners connecting rods, they can turn and eventually jam, worse if these liners pop up. Repair, in this case, will be expensive, regardless of the car model.

In order to protect yourself from expensive repairs and not be left without a car, you need to held regular diagnostics. The most important thing is that it is not necessary every time to go to the service center, it is enough to check the car for errors that can be corrected using the application InCarDoc.
