Codes description Lost power and EPC light lit up.

The EPC light usually points to an issue with the throttle system, sensors, or electronic engine controls — and what you’re describing (loss of power, sluggish throttle) sounds like the car went into limp mode to protect itself.

Even if the Check Engine Light didn’t come on, there’s probably a stored code in the ECU. I’d recommend scanning it ASAP — even a basic OBD2 app like InCarDoc or OBDeleven can help you pull the codes.

Could be something like a faulty throttle body, brake light switch, MAP sensor, or even an issue with the turbo boost control. Driving with the EPC light on isn’t ideal — it’s usually okay short-term if you need to get home, but don’t ignore it. You could lose power entirely if the fault gets worse.

Codes description EPC and MTK indicators light up after acceleration

Based on everything you described — and the other replies above — it really sounds like your car is reacting to a chain of related issues. The first warning EPC usually points to something like a throttle body malfunction, a faulty gas pedal sensor, or even ignition misfires. The jerking and sudden loss of power you experienced when the EPC came on are exactly what the system is designed to do: cut power to protect the engine.
Then, when the MTK light came on after the second acceleration, that likely means your transmission control module TCM received confusing or invalid data from the engine — like throttle angle or torque request - and triggered a fault of its own. What’s common in these situations is that EPC will go off once the engine returns to normal readings, but the MTK light stays on because the TCM stored a separate fault that hasn’t been cleared.
Since the lights are coming and going, I’d say the problem isn’t totally critical yet - but it’s definitely progressing. I’d highly recommend running a scan using InCarDoc with your OBD2 adapter. It’ll show not just active errors, but also stored and pending codes, which are super important in cases like this. Those hidden codes often reveal what actually triggered the chain of events. If your car supports it, check the freeze frame data too - that’ll tell you the exact conditions when the faults occurred.
Most likely you’ll see a combination of errors: maybe something with the throttle, boost pressure, ignition, or even a basic electrical glitch. Once you scan and see the exact codes, the picture will become a lot clearer - feel free to share the results here, and I or others can help walk you through what they mean.

Codes description Rough idle and power loss - what could be causing this?

P1497 usually points to a faulty EGR valve or its position sensor, and P2562 is a classic turbo actuator or boost sensor issue. When both show up, it explains the rough idle and delayed throttle response. I’d recommend grabbing an OBD2 scanner and checking with InCarDoc — even pending codes can give you clues, especially if the CEL isn’t on all the time. Might be something simple like a connector or carbon buildup.

Codes description Rough idle and power loss - what could be causing this?

I had similar symptoms on my 2014 Passat. Random check engine light, rough idle, and sluggish response — turned out to be two codes: P1497 - EGR valve sensor issue and P2562 - turbo boost control position sensor. I used InCarDoc with a Bluetooth OBD2 adapter, and both codes popped up right away. Cleaning the EGR valve helped temporarily, but I eventually had to replace it. The boost sensor was just dirty. I’d start with a scan - it’ll save you a ton of guesswork.

Codes description Lost power and EPC light lit up.

The EPC warning usually relates to throttle control, accelerator pedal position, or sometimes even the brake light switch. Since you’re seeing reduced power and delayed throttle response, I’d suggest checking for codes with an OBD2 scanner. The InCarDoc app works great with most Bluetooth adapters and gives you real-time data and stored faults. Once you know the exact code, you can narrow it down — it could be anything from a wiring issue to a failing sensor. Until then, avoid highways or steep inclines.

Codes description Lost power and EPC light lit up.

I had a similar issue with my 2015 Jetta 1.8 TSI. In my case, the EPC light came on because of a faulty throttle body. The car went into limp mode and felt very sluggish. I used the InCarDoc OBD2 app with a Bluetooth scanner to read the fault codes, and it showed a P2135 — throttle position sensor issue. If you’re getting the same symptoms, I’d definitely recommend scanning it yourself before heading to a shop. It’s safe to drive short distances, but not for long, especially if you’re losing power.

Hello forum! The best tips and tricks for maintaining and repairing your car

Owning a car is a significant investment that comes with responsibility for proper maintenance and periodic repairs. Regardless of whether you are an experienced car enthusiast or a car owner for the first time, you should listen to the advice of experienced mechanics and maintenance stations about keeping your car in excellent condition is crucial. In this article, we will look at a detailed guide that covers both maintenance and self-repair.

Tips for car care at any time of the year

Regular checkups

Just as regular visits to the doctor keep you healthy, routine checkups are the foundation of good car maintenance. Carry out regular inspections of major components such as the engine, transmission, brakes, and tires. This will help you find signs of wear, leaks, or noise and quickly resolve any problems.

Checking or replacing the fluid

Liquids are the source of your car's power. Check and replace the engine oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, and coolant regularly in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. Maintaining the proper fluid level and using the right types of fluids will ensure optimal performance and extend the life of your vehicle's components.

Tire inspection

Tires play a crucial role in the safety and performance of your car. Check the tire pressure regularly, change them according to the recommendations and replace them as the tread wears out. Properly inflated and aligned tires increase fuel efficiency and handling, contributing to smoother driving. On newer cars, the recommended tire pressure is most commonly listed on a sticker inside the driver’s door.

After all, with weather conditions, the presser in tires changed too. The pressure in the tires also depends on the load level of the car. The more it is loaded, the higher the indicators will be. What is more, the pressure recommendations depend on the size and type of the tire. The general follow-up rules are:

  • 0.2 BAR - 2.9 PSI - recommended increase in front tire pressure when running at continuous maximum speed
  • 2.3 BAR - 33.4 PSI - recommended front tire pressure

  • 2.5 BAR - 36.3 PSI - recommended rear tire pressure
  • 2.9 BAR - 42.31 PSI - recommended rear tire pressure

inCarDoc team will pay more attention to this issue in cumming articles.

Battery maintenance

A dead battery may cause a power outage. Therefore, it is important to carry out regular battery maintenance. Ensure a reliable connection and replace the battery.

Self-checking

Master the basic skills of self-repair to deal with minor problems without contacting a mechanic. The inCarDoc application will perfectly help to carry out self-diagnosis of cars with OBD2 testing tool. The application provides a convenient view of the parameters of the car and engine in real time. inCarDoc reads the operating parameters of the engine and the car. Namely, speed, RPM, pressure, fuel consumption. Performs “Check engine”, saved parameters, and error clean-up (Check Engine, MIL). With all the advantages of inCarDoc, you can download it via Android or iOS.

Follow the maintenance schedule

Each vehicle is accompanied by the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule, as set out in the operating manual. Following this schedule will help you prevent possible issues, preventing expensive repairs in the future. Make regular appointments for professional inspections and maintenance, as indicated in the manual.

Conclusion:

Car care involves a combination of regular maintenance, thorough inspections and a willingness to undertake minor repairs. By following these tips, you will be able to ensure the reliability, safety, and best performance of your car for many years to come. The inCarDoc OBD2 scanner app will also help you with this. With it, you will be able to carry out inspections in a timely manner and, if necessary, contact the service station.

Installation and work at Android devices Bluetooth

OBD-II ( https://incardoc.com/ru-ru/article/what-cars-are-supported/ )
