2020 Land Rover Defender Comes Back to Impress

Defender is a real SUV, what we can only imagine it. It, like any Land Rover, hasn’t lost its luxury and premium appearance. From 1983 to 2016 Defender roared into the market and was rightfully considered the most durable car of the brand. However, the conveyor production stopped for 4 years, engineers and designers began to develop a new generation Defender, which decisively destroyed the canons of sports utility vehicles.

Testing of the car was carried out very carefully, for the same reason, the premiere was constantly postponed. The model was successfully tested at the Nürburgring track. As a result, the new Defender went on its own from China to Europe, passing the mountains, rugged terrain, sand and water, thereby confirming its title of the endurance SUV. The car passed at an altitude of over 3000 meters and a temperature below 40 degrees.

Presented Defenders are pre-production models at the Frankfurt and Los Angeles Motor Shows, and future vehicles will be slightly modified. However, these changes don’t significantly affect either the production part or the overall visualization of the model.

What is the peculiarity of the 2020 Land Rover Defender

The complete set of the car is presented in three versions — 90, 110 and 130 with 4 engines for the first two versions, exactly. Land Rover Defender 90 is a three-door station wagon and 5-door Land Rover Defender 110 goes with P300, P400, D200, D240 engines. The ground clearance is 29 cm, and the depth of the ride waded across is 90 cm.

The large car has proportions in meters: 5L x 2W x 1.90 H x 3 wheelbase. The body is made of aluminum and plastic. The first thing to note is the lack of a frame. The British manufacturer decided to replace it with an aluminum monocoque, which according to the company is stronger and tougher than at any existing SUV model.

The 2020 Land Rover Defender is a soft hybrid with a 48 Volt battery. Also, in the near future, it is expected to release a charged hybrid with a small mileage, mainly for the city. The base engines are 2.0-liter, diesel and petrol, and the top engine with a capacity of 400 HP is designed for 3 liters. Acceleration 0-100 on the declared metric is 6 seconds.

The independent suspension on the front and rear wheels and optionally can be pneumatic, provides excellent handling on the road.

The company got rid of primitivism. In the new models, you will not find a manual transmission, and many functions are now based on electronics. There is only an automatic gear in all complete sets. In this case, the gearbox selector is placed on the front panel. The new models have expanded electronics, and therefore the functionality now includes more features, such as downshifts, locking rear and center differential, torque redistribution.

The interior of the car is spacious. Depending on the version it offers accommodation from 5 to 8 seats. In addition, there is a completely new multimedia system, which can be easily updated via the Internet connection. Also, production models will be equipped with a projection (pop-up) display optional.
